Synopsis & Scholarly Abstract

It takes immense pleasure for us to write this book on the systematic study of Dioscorea species of Meghalaya, North east India which is a part of the first author Ph. D research work. Dioscorea, a complicated genus has always been a challenge to systematist due to it wide range of diversity in nature, dieocy and small flower. This is also regarded as a potent genus for alkaloid “Diosgenin”. Hence this book “An approach towards the systematic study on Dioscorea species of Meghalaya, N.E. India” will help the students, researchers and the scientific community, on the various taxonomic, anatomical, palynological and numerical taxonomic issues relating to the study of this genus. The book will equip the reader with an approach towards understanding on the subject and will also kindles curiosity and interest, in the field of experimental taxonomy.
