Women in the economically active age group 15-59 years count for 58.4 % of the women population in India (Tenth Five Year Plan, 2002-2007). In the era of globalization women in India have assumed greater responsibility, both at home and in the world of work. They have entered all elds of business, industry and service sectors. There has been a massive growth in women’s employment in informal sectors. Realising the enormous potential and power of women the Gove ment of India at the center and state and the Non- Gove ment Organisations have promoted empowerment and entrepreneurship programs to employ the same in nation building and economic development.
